I'm an award-winning comedian and maths communicator* combining comedy, song and extreme pedantry to lethal effect (not literally.) You'll find me performing family and grown-up shows at festivals, comedy clubs, schools, pubs, pie shops... anywhere that wants a venn diagram intersection of maths and entertainment. I've appeared several times on Radio 4's cult numbers show 'More or Less', published three books for children and adults, and had a song about the Riemann Hypothesis turned into a local radio jingle - surely a world first. I'm open to performance or presenting opportunities - just drop me an email. Promo photos and other materials can be found here.
Here are some of the full-length shows I've created…
MATHS MADNESS
Audience: 7+
This action-packed inclusive family show brings together some of my favourite demos that I've performed at festivals & shows over the last couple of years, including: T-shirts of Hanoi, a Fibonacci based folk song, the paper folding world championships and an attempt to fit the world's entire rice output onto a giant chessboard (this part isn't *always* successful.) This show was featured on BBC Breakfast during its full-house Edinburgh run in 2019, and was nominated for best family show at Leicester Comedy Festival 2020. It requires a theatre-type venue and a sound technician to cue some sound prompts.
RETURN OF THE MATH(s)
Audience: 5+
This is an extremely lo-fi family show that can be done completely a capella with no audio or video whatsoever. It involves some maths 'magic tricks' and some conundrums and paradoxes from my book Poems & Paradoxes. This is a great show for village halls, school halls or any room without amplification; it's also the most appropriate set for a young audience.
MATHS TRICKS TO BLOW YOUR MIND!
Audience: 12+, or 7+ with advance notice
This is a theatre-type show with lots of crowd participation that can be adjusted for an adult or family audience. It is based on themes and ideas from my book of the same name; exploring viral maths puzzles, riddles and conundrums in a fun and inclusive manner.
BORN TO SUM
Audience: 14+
From Bob Dylan and Beyonce’s algebraic song titles to Kate Bush’s (near) perfect recital of pi to fifty decimal places, pop stars have been dropping maths references into their tunes for decades. It just takes a certain kind of mathematical pedant to notice them all...
Part musical comedy, part nerd humour, this is a fun night for maths enthusiasts and novices alike. Suitable for teens and up (some adult humour.)
*Winner of Famelab UK 2016

Nominated for best Family show, Leicester Comedy Festival 2020
